Urges Congress to Support Comprehensive Plan to Improve this Key Driver of Nation’s Economy

Statement by Peter Doherty, Executive Director, Greeting Card Association

Washington, DC — March 26, 2018 — “The Postal Service Reform Act of 2018 will provide a way forward for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) through a comprehensive plan to improve overall operations.  We applaud Senators Tom Carper (D-DE), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) for introducing this bi-partisan legislation that will help stabilize and secure the future of the USPS.  Specifically, the legislation will increase sustainability, prioritize postal customers with service improvements, modernize the postal service business model and increase transparency throughout the organization.  As a member of the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service (C21), the Greeting Card Association (GCA) has long supported a stable and self-funding USPS to deliver nearly 150 billion pieces of mail each year.  We urge Congress to pass this legislation to support the USPS, which is a focal point of a $1.4 trillion industry and a critical driver of the nation’s economy.”
