June 20, 2016:

Recently, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee released draft legislation to stabilize Postal Service finances. The GCA Postal Affairs Committee is in the process of evaluating the legislation and consulting our colleagues within the mailing industry with whom we have been working as well as the Postal Service management team to assess the bill thoroughly.

We are pleased that for the first time in several years, postal legislation from the House of Representatives does not seek to end Saturday mail service. Our initial impression is that this bill could be an effective approach to addressing the Postal Service’s financial challenges prior to the major review of the rate setting system due to begin this December.

We will be in touch with a detailed analysis and recommendation as soon as possible. In the meantime, a summary of the bill can be found at this link.
